The illusion is based on Sibylla Palmifera, by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. The original painting, which is now in Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight, was painted around 1865 - 70


Sybils were prophetesses in several Classical cultures. Palmifera means palm-bearer. The palm is meant to convey the spiritual nature of the painting.
